I read this online today. I think this is something that everyone has trouble with. I did not learn how to ride a bike till late in my childhood. My drive was that all my friends were riding bikes around the neighborhood and I was running or not playing with them. Once I had the drive it only took me two days.

Thanks for that jason. I am currently going through this issue and I found that article and the other links from it to be very helpful. I will apply what I learned tonight.

That comment made it worth all my time. That is what this site is about. Fathers trading info and helping each other out. If nothing else I have helped one person ;)

I hope your bicycle endeavors end happily.

My dad used the grassy hill method for me and my siblings. I was about 5 years old. It took about 8 or 10 tries, as I recall, until I could keep it on the wheels and not fall over at the bottom. I remember being thrilled with my newfound freedom of riding my bike anywhere I wanted.

Those were the days! You could ride down the road to a friend's house and it was OK. Traffic was light, and you weren't worried about someone snatching kids. I wish my kids could have grown up like that.

I used the method of walking(running) behind the bike with a hand on the seat. That worked well with all my kids.
